## Introduction to Renting in Blackwall

Blackwall is a part of East London that gets lost among the hipper neighbourhoods that surround it. It is home to many hardworking families and young couples.

The cost of living in this city is affordable, especially if you are renting an apartment. Because there isn’t a lot to choose from, you’ll have to be lucky. There are a few small coffee shops and cafes in Blackwall, but you’ll have to travel outside of the area to find anything truly revolutionary. At night, use caution because there are some areas that have some crime.

## History of Blackwall

Originally a shipbuilding and repairing centre, Blackwall is now an increasingly affluent residential area of East London. There is now an influx of new luxury riverside development in the area.

Blackwall has Poplar on its North,  Leamouth on its East, and on the south and west is Canary Wharf.

Canary Wharf: 1.1 miles away / 5-10 minutes by car / 5-10 minutes by transit / 20 minutes by foot / 5 minutes by bike

Southwark: 4.6 miles away / 20-40 minutes by car / 25 minutes by transit / 30 minutes by bike

Westminster: 6.7 miles away / 25-60 minutes by car / 35-40 minutes by transit

Shoreditch: 5.2 miles away / 20-40 minutes by car / 25-30 minutes by transit / 30 minutes by bike

There are a few pubs and bars in the immediate area, but try visiting neighbouring areas like Canary Wharf for a rowdier nightlife.

Eighteen Sky Bar- The Eighteen Sky Bar is a sophisticated spot to enjoy a cocktail with spectacular views across the Thames and Canary Wharf. Blackwall is about a ten-minute walk from Eighteen Sky Bar.

The Clipper Bar London – The InterContinental London O2’s main bar and a favourite among hotel guests, the Clipper Bar is a striking showpiece. Blackwell is also about 10 minutes away from the Clipper Bar.  
NY-LON London – This swanky bar in The O2’s entertainment district offers the comforts of a first-class travel lounge. Blackwell is about 11 minutes from NY-LON.

## Fun fact about Blackwell

The name Blackwall is thought to come from the colour of the river wall, which was built in the Middle Ages and includes stairs. By the 14th century, it was known as Blackwall.
